It might be almost time for your kids to head back to school, but there is still ample opportunity to attend back-to-school bashes in Charleston and the surrounding areas. Many of these events offer games, food, donation opportunities, raffles, and free school supplies for your children. From Downtown Charleston to Summerville, there's an event wherever you call home. Back to School Donation Drive
Where: Garage 75, 1175 Folly Rd #G, Charleston SC
When: Saturday, August 3rd, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
This event aims to gather donations to give back to the Charleston community. Each donor will receive 10% off their bill at Garage 75 and the chance to win a gift basket. Donations will be sent to various schools, raffle tickets will be available to purchase, and all proceeds will benefit the schools. More details can be found here.
Cool to Be in School Supply Giveaway
Where: North Charleston Sports Complex, 1455 Monitor St, North Charleston SC
When: Saturday, August 3rd, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The Cool to Be in School Supply Giveaway has been fully operational since 2008. Free school supplies will be provided for students from elementary through high school, and families can also enjoy the bouncy house, food, music, face painting, and more at the North Charleston City Sports Complex!
Back to School Bash - Times Two!
Where: St. Johannes Lutheran Church, 48 Hasell St, Charleston SC
When: Sunday, August 11th, starting at 11:15 am
The annual Back to School Bash is free for all of those who would like to attend and will be held on August 11th at St. Johanne’s Lutheran church at 48 Hasell St. The church will be accepting school supplies and monetary donations to help those in need for the new school year. A family worship service will be in session from 11:45 to 12:45, and following the service, ice cream will be served along with the chance for everyone to get involved in “sack packing”. This is a beautiful opportunity to give back to your community in a welcoming environment!
Where: Bolts & Brews Beer Garden, 713 Old Trolley Rd, Summerville SC
When: Sunday, August 11th, 2:00 - 4:00 pm
If you call Summerville home, head to Bolts & Brews where "Carol's Balloon Art" will be twisting balloons into all shapes and sizes for the kids, and where back-to-school-themed tattoos will be on offer. Bring a donation for the backpack drive, benefiting the YMCA, and receive a free slushie or $1 off a drink. There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Dorchester School District, and so much more! Find more info here.
First Day Festival
Where: Charleston Gaillard Center, Liberty Square
When: August 11th, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The First Day Festival in Charleston is celebrating its 21st year! A collaborative effort between the City of Charleston, the Charleston County School District, and the South Carolina Aquarium, it will be an event to kick off the start of the school year, providing free school supplies, information on available resources, and free admission to the SC Aquarium! Their mission is to ensure every child has what they need to succeed throughout the school year. In order to do so, they are accepting donations now at the following drop-off locations.
