“Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It’s about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others’ success, and then standing back and letting them shine.” – Chris Hadfield.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Andy Bovender is a real estate agent and owner/team leader of The Bovender Group Real Estate Agency. His proficiency and natural comfort in the real estate industry might make you believe that it’s something he’s done all his life but it might surprise you to know that Andy’s first love was baseball. Andy attended the University of Charlotte, where he played shortstop for the 49ers and also attained his bachelors in economics. After graduating, Andy continued on with his baseball career as a third baseman where he was drafted to play professionally by the Houston Astros organization during the mid 90’s. After battling with some injuries, Andy decided to leave the field and settle down with his current wife – Amy.

After baseball, Andy married Amy and followed her footsteps entering the real estate industry and joining Allen Tate Realtors. In 2002, Amy left real estate with the birth of their first child, Blake. In 2006, Andy met Debbie Hooker and they joined forces and started their team (The Bovender Team). Today, The Bovender Team has grown to 20 total team members and ranks as #1 team in the Carolinas for the Allen Tate Realtors company, #4 in NC and #2 in SC amongst all real estate teams for sales volume, and the top 1% Nationally.

Speaking about increasing profitability and efficiency within his team, Andy said that to him, efficiency is everything. His team has implemented numerous systems, processes, and automations that make it very clear to everyone involved in a transaction, who exactly is responsible. This empowers each team member to make executive decisions, gaining them far more experience than the industry standard. He believes that efficiency translates to better service for clients and a more enjoyable process for the team.

Not everyone that gets involved in real estate plans on building a large and successful team like The Bovender Team. For Andy Bovender, the process of building The Bovender Team has been nothing short of amazing. “I love being on a team and have enjoyed even more building a team,” Andy stated. He explained that after starting the team, market changes and the various people he’s worked with caused the team to evolve over time. He noted that once a vision has been developed for what you’d like to build, you constantly keep molding as your vision is improved.

“Our vision has always been built upon having a solid foundation to support a great team and create an outstanding experience and results for our clients. That still is true today. My partner Debbie and I have always been great at meeting regularly, discussing direction and goals, and communicating it clearly until we get buy-in. We value our team’s ideas, thoughts, and goals and implement them regularly. We truly are a team working together to grow together.”

Andy’s outlook regarding his business, and largely his life, is that the glass is always half full. He describes himself as a proactive person who believes there is always a way to achieve any goal. He firmly believes in teamwork and sees every person on his team as a partner. He says his biggest strengths are his optimism, ability to quickly process results, accountability and his ability to communicate the vision and direction for the team. At the same time, he believes his weaknesses are staying on track and multi-tasking too much.

Andy thanks his experience with team sports for the success and rapid growth of his team. Team sports taught him the value of working together with others to achieve better results than on your own, hence them being a real estate team and not individual agents.
“I love watching when great coached teams outperform the teams that have 1 or 2 superstars. We don’t believe that it’s luck that they tend to win in the long run. Once you are working together as a team and in sync, as others pick up the pace, you will too. You all improve together and build upon each others’ experience. I love teams!” – Andy Bovender.

When asked about his assessment of where The Bovender Team is today, Andy said “We have an incredible culture of family and team. We work very hard and have very efficient systems to help us complete a lot in a little amount of time.” The Bovender Team is guided by the statement: “We believe our success is truly due to a combination of hard work and a deep passion to do an outstanding job for our clients. Our team is built upon this philosophy and each team member works together to achieve that. It is a team culture through and through.”

Andy currently resides in Fort Mill, South Carolina with his wife Amy, son Blake (16), and daughter Laney (11). Real Estate doesn’t always bring spare time, but when it does Andy enjoys spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors including running, hiking, travelling and playing golf. There is no better place to live than in the Carolinas where you can travel 2 hours to the mountains, 3 hours to the beach, or just enjoy all that the Charlotte region has to offer.
