Anyone living in the South Charlotte area near Providence Country Club is acutely aware of the explosion of growth out there with Waverly and the newest announcement of Rea Farms. I recently visited the developers and wanted to share with you the information I’ve been able to gather.

Rea Farms will be located less than one mile from I-485 at Providence Road exit at Providence and Ardrey Kell Roads. Another landmark is South Charlotte’s Waverly, that has Whole Foods as its anchor and the finest shopping, restaurants, homes and office space.

Rea Farms will be a 188-acre community that will encompass walkable amenities, townhomes and single-family residents, shops and restaurants, and a hotel. The property was once a generational family farm and then it was a popular golf course called the Charlotte Golf Links hence the name of the street Golf Links Drive. I played at this course regularly and miss it for sure but of course, you can’t stop progression!

Personally, one of the most exciting additions to the area is the new Lifetime Fitness Gym. This gym will be a 200,000 square-foot fitness center and will include an indoor and outdoor aquatic center, tennis courts, a salon and spa, and a health-focused cafe. LifeTime Fitness bought its 24-acre site in 2016 for $6 million and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2017. I have already joined this club in excitement and truly look forward to its grand opening. If you’ve ever had the desire to train in a multi-level spa like setting then LifeTime Fitness will be for you!

In addition to all of these amazing amenities, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg K-8 school is planned. It will be a science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) K-8 magnet school, with an expected opening date of August 2020.

Woodfield Investments has started vertical construction on a 455-unit new apartment community called The Links at Rea Farms. These apartments will include garden-style units, rental townhouses and apartments over ground-floor retail. The first apartments should be available in early 2018.

Construction is starting this summer on a 76,000 square-foot new Harris Teeter, the anchor tenant for 210,000 square feet total of new shops and restaurants. The Harris Teeter will replace the existing building in the adjacent shopping center. I can’t wait for this as well since the current store is a bit out dated. Two of my favorite restaurants are also receiving some highly anticipated renovations – Ilios Noches and Hickory Tavern! No need to drive uptown for posh dining any longer. Don’t forget to stop for dessert at my favorite place, Carvel! Wednesdays are always buy one Sundae get one free.

Greystar is starting construction in August on a five-story, 171-unit community for 55-and-older residents, to be called Overture Providence. First units will be available in late 2018.

CalAtlantic Homes is building 249 single-family houses and townhouses, with the first model home debuting this fall.
