The Steele Creek Area has been one of the fastest growing residential areas which dates back to the 1740’s. Steele Creek, the small stream from which the community gets its name, rises from a spring on property near the intersection of Steele Creek Road and Shopton Road and flows south and east into South Carolina.
 
This area has one of the highest employment concentrations in the county and is home to several recreation sites. This area is located SW of Charlotte near the airport and interstates 485, 85 and 77. The city CATS busing system is available too.
 
Bordering the NC and SC lines, residents of both states can enjoy this area and the quick drive to Charlotte.
Steele Creek has a growing area called Arsley that has a movie theatre, shopping and restaurants. There is a bustling new town center called Rivergate with a wide array of restaurant and shopping stores. Also, a brand new outlet mall has opened.
 
Steele Creek is home to many parks and trails for walking, biking, boating, fishing, picnicking and camping. There is Steele Creek Community Trail, Winget Park, Copperhead Island Park, Mcdowell Park, Berewick Districk Park & Rec Center.
 
For sporting activities there is the Steele Creek Athletic Association.
